The foreign office on Thursday clarified that relief to earthquake victims is being provided by Pakistani army and Pakistani relief agencies along the Line of Control (LoC) in Neelum and Jhelum valleys.

Commenting on news reports of Indian intention to provide relief along the LoC, the foreign office spokesman said despite difficulties and challenges due to accessing people living up in mountains and to provide them with relief and assistance relief supplies are being delivered by helicopters, mules and soldiers on foot.

The foreign office said anyone, who is able to come down from mountains, gets relief and medical assistance at camps established for this purpose. They do not have to cross the LoC to get relief assistance.

The foreign office further said Pakistan had also conveyed officials of both sides (India and Pakistan) can receive relief goods at five points including the three points suggested by India.

India can send relief goods to these points to be received by Pakistani sides for distribution, the foreign office said.

Similarly, if they (occupied Kashmiris) need any items from Pakistan, it would be ready to hand them over if these are readily available locally to help affected people on the other side of LoC.

The foreign office said the more important matter is the arrangement to enable Kashmiris to visit their relatives at this time of great tragedy.

Pakistan has made a comprehensive proposal to India and waiting for the arrival of Indian delegation to discuss the proposal and take decisions so that Kashmiris desiring to meet each other can do so without undue procedural delays.
